Stylish Essentials for your Home Office

If you are like many people working and going to school from home due to the pandemic, you know how important it is to have a dedicated workspace. Whether your home office is a room in your house or a corner in a room, having a space that is organized, cleaned, and aesthetically pleasing is important as it can positively affect your productivity. For those needing to elevate their home office, we have put together a few stylish pieces for you that will help energize your workspace.

We are loving this rust-colored chair. Paired with the brass inset desk and brass accessories, it’s understated elegance. If you are like me and love a good planner, then you will like this wipeable week at a glance wall planner. It’s attractive and can be used year after year.

Let’s talk about this stylish seagrass desk. Not only does it offer hidden storage, but it also swivels out to provide additional surface space. Everything can be tucked back in after use and looks pretty and fresh with the blush pink office chair and round marble lamp.

This modular wall unit is another great desk for those who are tight on space. The wall panel helps to distinguish the work station from the rest of the space. Functional and big on style, its a winner in our book.

We are enjoying seeing furniture manufacturers include more pieces with rounded lines like the middle desk above with integrated storage. Another example of how pieces can be both attractive and highly useful.

For those who suffer from back pain for sitting down too long, you may want to try a standing desk. Crate and Barrel has come out with an attractive one that allows you to switch from a seated position to standing. We love how it looks paired with this cognac leather office chair and the modern mobile lamp.

We hope you found this post helpful. Please note that the items are not shown to scale. We wish you good health and well-being as we go through this new year.

The Great Outdoors

Like many, who have been in quarantine, we have been spending a lot of time in our yard for some fresh air and vitamin D. The weather luckily has been so pleasant. We have played outdoor games, drew chalk drawings on our fence, lounged in a blow-up pool, worked in the yard, roasted marshmallows, and have enjoyed a few meals outside. We have even started prepping for the garden we have been talking about doing for a while now.

To help you make the most of your outdoor space, we pulled together some pieces to create an attractive outdoor living space (much of it is on sale) along with some items that you can enjoy outdoors. How fun would it be to camp in your backyard with easy access to bathrooms :) or have an outdoor movie night?!

We would love to hear some ways you and your family have been enjoying your outdoor space. Comment below.

Breathing New Energy into Your Home

Home has become a true haven for so many as we all deal with this pandemic, COVID-19. We are grateful for all the medical personnel, postal employees, store clerks, truck drivers and all the other essential workers who go to work to keep life going for the rest of us.

Though we are thankful to those that are on the front line so that we get to stay home, many of us may be feeling a bit stir-crazy. Here are a few things you can do to help breathe new energy into your home.

1) Organize and de-clutter- Go through all your closets and drawers one by one and get rid of anything you don’t find useful or brings you joy. Go through your kid’s clothes and pull out anything that they have grown out and toys that they don’t play with anymore. Go through your books and donate any you no longer want. In the kitchen, organize your pantry and go through your cabinets. Do you have any glassware or kitchen utensils that haven’t been used in years? Give it away to someone who can use it and allow for more space. Try to remove as many things as possible from your countertops. For more tips on de-cluttering, here and here are a blog posts we did specifically on the topic.

2) Clean - Nothing feels better than a clean house. Take a room at a time to do a deep cleaning. This will help you not get overwhelmed. Wipe down walls, clean baseboards, clean tile grout. In the bathrooms hit up those gunky caulk lines. Dust and clean all the light fixtures and ceiling fans. Clean the windows and window tracks.

3) Re-arrange a room - Try changing the placement of furniture such as putting your sofa or bed on a different wall. If re-arranging a room isn’t possible, try rearranging a bookshelf. Move around the placement of some of your decor items. A Feng Shui rule if you are feeling stuck, is to move 27 things to let new energy flow.

4) Make a celebration of the small things - Pull out your good china and create a pretty table setting for your next dinner, even if it’s for a table for one. I have been drinking a lot of tea lately and for my birthday my husband got me these pretty teacups and spoons. It makes drinking my tea feel much more special.

5) Bring some greenery inside - Greenery brings life to a space. On you’re next trip to the grocery store, pick up a bouquet of flowers or cut some clippings from your yard. Many trees are in bloom this time of year. Another option is to contact your local florist. I know many have taken a big hit with wedding cancellations and have started delivering flower arrangements.

6) Light candles- Lighting a candle can create a calming atmosphere. Not only are lit candles relaxing but for many people, lighting a candle is done ritualistically to symbolize one’s intentions, prayers, and hopes. Try before lighting a candle next time saying a little prayer or intention and see how it makes you feel. Here are a couple of my go-to candles. I typically like to do one or two good scented candles like this Neroli one accompanied by several unscented ones so that the smell isn’t overwhelming.

7) Open the windows - It has been unusually pleasant outside. There is a nice breeze that has kept the mosquitoes at bay. If the weather allows where you live, open the windows and let fresh air in and stale air out!

Hope you found a few of these suggestions helpful. We wish you and your family good health and joy.

Decor to help transition your home from the holidays to the new year.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone’s year is off to a good start. Have you taken down your Christmas decor and your house feels naked? Mine always does. You get accustomed to the extra festive layers, the greenery from the Christmas tree and garland, and the twinkling lights. When it all gets put up, it tends to feel bare. So, today I’m sharing a few items that you can add to your home to help transition from the holidays to the new year.

Every year my Christmas tree goes in the corner of my living room where my sad fiddle leaf tree usually sits. That corner doesn’t get enough natural light to keep a plant happy but it needs something with height in that area of the room. When Christmas rolls around the Christmas tree fills that corner so nicely and makes me happy. So, I have decided this year to stop the struggle of trying to keep a real tree alive and purchase a faux one.

I love the look of this olive tree Brown Design Group used in the living room above and was able to find a couple of great faux options on the market. Many places sell faux olive trees with olives on them which to me makes them look less realistic. The two trees below do not have olives on them and are of good size. See the link under the photos. One thing to note, Pottery Barn sells a smaller tree (not shown here) and it does have olives on it.

I find adding something new to the home when it is feeling stale brings in new energy. It could be new throw pillows, new sheets for the new year, replacing towels that are starting to look worn out, or adding a new sculpture to my shelves. Here are a few that have caught my eye.

Lastly, I don’t know about you but I find the lights on the Christmas tree so cozy and tend to miss it once the tree is put up. One way to achieve the same coziness is with several lit candles. I like to do a grouping unscented candles of varying sizes grouped together on a tray and have one scented candle in a favorite scent. One of my current favorite scents is Target’s Neroli which comes in a pretty ceramic container.
